Louis Hale Barton

Louis Hale Barton, age 76 of Fairbanks, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023.

Louis was born on September 24, 1946 in Owensboro, Kentucky, Daviss County. Louis served his Country Honorably in the US Army. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Louis married Jackie Baird on July 5, 1985 in Fairbanks. Louis was a gifted Christian that enjoyed reading, especially his Bible, and was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, North Pole, Alaska for over 30 years. He was also talented with Intarsia and established his business Alaskan Wildlife and Wood where he produced unique custom artwork.

Louis was a hunting and fishing enthusiast and enjoyed the Alaska outdoors boating Alaskan waters for over 30 years. He enjoyed playing the guitar and sang very well. He was involved with hunter education and assisted individuals in obtaining their GED’s. Louis truly loved spending time with his twin sons, wife of 38 years, and in recent years, being blessed with two beautiful grandchildren. In 1969, Steve Hammerstrom contacted Louis and invited him to accept a position with Alaskan Department of Fish and Game in Anchorage which Louis accepted. However, in September 1970, Louis was interrupted in his journey with Fish and Game by the US Army and their need of his services from 1970-1972.

Louis returned to Alaska in 1972 and pursued his greatest job interest and fascination with Alaska Department of Fish and Game which he held until his retirement as a Commercial Fisheries Research Biologist in August 2000. He was blessed with incredible opportunities to venture into the amazing wilderness of Alaska – the people he met, the individuals he was fortunate to work with, and friends he made, gave him great joy.

Louis is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Baird Barton of Fairbanks, son, Jonathan (Melissa) Barton of Anchorage, grandson, Elias, son, Jeffrey (Liz) Barton of Oahu, HI, granddaughter, Juniper, and step-son, Donald (Teresa) Touvell of Gilbert, AZ. Louis was preceded in death by his father, William H. Barton, Mother, Martha Bennett Barton and brother, Harold Lynn Barton.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 11Am – 1PM at Blanchard Family Funeral Home; 611 Noble Street.
